Fellow classic dressers will get it when I say that I’m forever on the hunt for stylish, timeless pieces to build my wardrobe around.

Classic dressers crave clothes that are simple, clean and often have a hint of the traditional.  We like basic colors – navy, grey, black and white, we like to be neat and we love clothes and accessories that are of excellent quality.

You don’t decide to be a classic dresser – you just are.  Remember how I tried, when I was much younger, to be more like my girlfriends who dressed in a pretty, feminine, whimsical style and it just felt all wrong?

In the pursuit of putting together a classic wardrobe I always have my eye out for a basic yet chic white shirt, a great pair of flattering dark denim jeans, a beautifully tailored and fitted black blazer and a versatile little black dress.

But lately I have been focused on finding the perfect black pump.  My criteria was that they were not too high, but yet high enough to still be a little bit sexy.  I didn’t mind if they had a round or a pointy toe but I wouldn’t compromise when it came to comfort.  I didn’t just want a shoe I could only wear from the car to the restaurant. I wanted something I could stand for hours or run around in and I wouldn’t have that tortured look of agony on my face, while doing so.  They had to be good quality leather and of course, they had to be within my budget.

I found them.  And they tick all the boxes.

They’re from Florsheim and you can buy them here

What classic style dressers need to remember is that although a piece is “classic” it will still date.   Shapes change. So while you may have a classic cashmere coat you bought in the early 90′s or a classic pair of black shoes you’ve had for a decade, that are still in great shape- they just might be dated.   Shoulder and sleeve widths change, as do heels.   Don’t age yourself by wearing clothes that are out-dated.  Continue to update and/or reinvent your clothes.  Stay current and modern, not daggy and dated.

I hear you with the search for the perfect pair of black pumps! I have loads of “statement shoes” but sometimes you just can’t beat a classic. And of course, they have to have that elusive mix of comfort and sexiness. After a lengthy hunt, I finally found mine at Bally!

Thanks for dropping by my blog Michelle. I can imagine your Bally pump would be very chic and the hunt would have been worth it. Cheers, Meaghan
