How To Add Wow To Your Outfit

You’ve been invited to a special occasion (drinks with some old girlfriends you haven’t seen for a long time, dinner with your husbands colleagues  or to a friends opening art exhibition)  and you have absolutely no idea what to wear.

You don’t have a lot of time to go searching and/or you don’t want to spend a lot of money on something new.

Here’s an idea..

Use a single strong piece to make a statement and create an interesting outfit.

Pull out some of the basics you have in your wardrobe, lay them on your bed and see what you have to work with.

Then once you’ve decided what your canvas will be (it might be a great pair of black pants and a pair of black heels, a black pencil skirt and a crisp white shirt or your favourite jeans and a blazer) pull out all the fancy things you have in your wardrobe and consider what can be used to jazz up the basics and have an impact.

This is where you need to experiment.  Try mixing things together that you might not have considered before.  A pair of  black pants, a knit,  a sexy heel and a sequined clutch or a brocade skirt you wore to a wedding with a classic white shirt.

You can see in all the images below there is one feature in particular that is the focal point of the outfit (whether it’s a shoe, a bag, a coat, a jacket, a belt, a pair of gloves, a nail color, scarf, a hairstyle or a lip color)  The rest of the outfit is made up of relatively neutral basics.

*Of course, the key here is to ensure your wardrobe has some essential basics to create outfits from and also has some fancy pieces to add the “wow” when needed.
