The Personal Style of Costanza Pascolato

I aspire to be half as stylish and elegant as Italian born, Vogue contributor, Costanza Pascolato, when I’m 80.

There’s a lot we can take for inspiration, from observing how Costanza dresses and styles herself.

She keeps her canvas very simple – generally in slim black pants and top, but then decorates them with a great jacket, lovely shoes, statement jewellery (Did you notice her skull ring?) and over-sized sunglasses.   And then of course, there’s her signature coiffed hair.  (I’ve also noticed she always wears the same shade of lipstick.)

About aging, on Garance Dore’s site, Costanza was quoted as saying..

“I am a lucky person. All women in my family were strong and positive. They taught me to accept aging. But of course, they were intelligent, elegant, and my mother was very beautiful. The new generation follows their examples: my daughter Consuelo is 50 and looks great. And Alessandra is 48 and looks much younger than her age. We all have a sense that life is a privilege. So we treat our bodies (and souls) gracefully. I do a lot of exercise, eat well etc., but I do not try to look much younger than I am. I only want to look the best for my age, and that, happily, makes me stay away from anxiety.”

Toe Cleavage

13 Jun

Toe Cleavage

“Toe cleavage is the partial exposure of a woman’s toes in shoes that are cut low enough at the vamp. Low cut shoes reveal toe cleavage similar to how low cut tops reveal breast cleavage”. (Wikipedia)

Yep, it’s a thing!

Shoe designer Manolo Blahnik said, “The secret of toe cleavage, a very important part of the sexuality of the shoe; you must only show the first two cracks”

I have clients who would never wear a shoe where you can see the cracks of the toes and others who like it. I’m with Manolo, I don’t mind a subtle hint. .

What do think about toe cleavage? Here’s what I think.

Too much…

Double denim

27 Mar

Double denim

I was chatting with a friend recently about double denim. She told me she likes it, but every time she tries it it never feels right. She was wondering what she was doing wrong. I thought I’d share with you, what I told her..

Try wearing different shades of denim together.. AND
Make sure you break up the denim with an interesting shoe, belt, bag, jacket, jewellery, etc. (Even makeup and nail color can do the trick) *If it doesn’t feel sophisticated enough, it could be how you’re accessorising.

Also make sure the denim is a modern style. If you’re wearing something that could be outdated it may make you feel you’re stuck in the 80’s or 90’s. .

If the denim feels too much, try wearing your jeans, skirt or shorts with something chambray (which will be softer) on top. .

..and of course make sure the denim pieces are flattering. (Jackets with drop shoulders or shirts with big pockets on the bust are not the best options for everyone)

I also suggested to her that perhaps she likes the look on other people but it’s just not for her. If it feels uncomfortable when she wears it, it might not be her style. .

How To Put Together A Sexy Outfit

21 Nov

In the past couple of weeks two of my regular clients have asked me to help them find something “sexy” to wear.

One contacted me saying “Help! I’ve got a wedding to go to and I need to look hot. My ex-husband is going to be there with his new girlfriend” and the other was ready to start embracing her curves, by accentuating her lovely figure and wear something less conservative than she was used to.

The first thing I asked both of them was – When it comes to clothes, what makes you feel sexy?

(One, after some prompting from me knew what it was, and the other had no idea, which meant we had to do lots of sampling of different things til she figured it out).

Everyone has their own idea of what sexy is and what makes you feel that way when you’re wearing it. For some, it’s a pretty soft flowy dress with just a subtle hint of skin, for others it might be a figure hugging and/or revealing (perhaps Kardashianesque) outfit and for others like me, it’s my favourite perfume, pretty lingerie, a great pair of jeans and heels.

(And for some, it’s not important at all…)

Whether it’s “funky”, “edgy”, “trendy”, “cool” or “sexy”, that you’re wanting to achieve, you need to figure out what that word means to you first. Keeping in mind that it’s not just about how you look, but more importantly how you feel. Because when you feel it, you’ll also exude it..
