How To Feminise An Outfit

21 Nov

If you put an outfit together and it feels a little more masculine than you’d like, try feminising it.

For example, a polo shirt and a pair of chinos.

Together or on their own they may not feel feminine enough for you. (Of course it depends on your personal style, your personality, the image you want to portray, etc.)

In this case Ines de la Fressange has piled on and layered several pieces of jewellery  (She’s also carrying quite a “ladylike” bag).

Some things (like dresses) can be thrown on and they instantly feel right, and others (parkas, boyfriend jeans, shorts, brogues, cotton shirts, etc, etc) often need some styling to achieve the desired look.  (and feel)

Adding jewelry is not the only way to feminise an outfit. Experiment!  (Or give me a yell and I’ll help you 🙂 )

Multiple Piercings

11 Jul

If I can muster up the courage, I’m thinking about getting another hole in my ear.

I had my ears pierced the day I turned 18. My Dad wouldn’t let me get them done until then – and being the good girl that I am (was), I did as I was told.

They used a gun back then (not sure if they do now), and it was over quickly. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to have it done by a needle.

If you, like me, are considering getting your ears pierced for the first time, or a second (or third) time, you might want to read this very informative article before you do.  (I understand now why my holes are lopsided)

Is Your Handbag Flattering Your Frame?

17 May

If creating a longer leaner look is important to you, then one thing you can pay attention to is your handbag – the size and shape of it and where it sits on your body.

A wide chunky (maybe slouchy) crossbody bag that sits at the largest point of your hips, will make your frame appear broader (particularly if you’re petite) than a narrow structured bag that sits close to the indent of your waist.

Chunky, with a wide bottom and sitting on the hip.

Structured, narrow and sitting close to the waist.

Brooches

20 Apr

..add a brooch or two to your jacket.

Something old..

Something modern..

Something old with something modern..

A glamorous pin will add an individual touch to your work jackets, but it needn’t just be for the office. Try wearing a brooch with your blazer, jeans and a t-shirt.

Remember, it’s the decoration that helps demonstrate your unique style and add oomph to your outfits.

TIP – Wearing a brooch (or two) is a great way to draw attention and focus up to your face.  (Perhaps away from something else, that you’d prefer to draw attention away from)
