Street Style At New York Fashion Week

It’s New York Fashion Week and if you’ve been following my Facebook page for a while you’ll know I love the Fashion Weeks for watching what the showgoers wear to the shows. I find that, equally if not more, as inspiring as watching what the designers are parading on the catwalks.

One of the women whose style I admire, Giorgia Tordini, has popped up a lot on sites and Instagram feeds wearing this head to toe navy outfit with black shoes (yes you can wear blue and black together) and lots of gold jewelry.

Wearing head to toe one color can look really chic or really bland depending on how you do it.

Proportions – Leg Length

If you’re going to wear something long on top and short (cropped) on the bottom, consider highlighting your waist to visually lengthen your legs.

Black, White And Grey

You might recall a couple of weeks ago I talked about how to wear black and white. Hopefully by now you’ve had a chance to go through your wardrobe and consider what black and white pieces you own and have been able to come up with many different ways to wear them.

Now it’s time to add another color(shade) into the mix.

Grey.

You might think you can’t wear grey, but don’t give up on it til you’ve tried several different shades. (For example a light grey might make you look a bit washed out, but a charcoal could be fine) Or if you like it and feel you can’t (don’t want to) wear it near your face, consider a shoe, pair of jeans, skirt, bag or pants.

When Clothes Stand The Test Of Time

The photo above is of Princess Anne at the races at Royal Ascot recently.

The second photo (below) is Princess Anne at a Royal engagement wearing the same outfit in 1980.

The next photos are at the races in 1983, 1991 and 2011.

I doubt that many of us could say we’ve worn an outfit like this, over 35 years.

I’ve looked at it closely to see if anything has been altered to modernise it and I don’t believe anything has. (Apart from wearing a different glove, shoe, hat and brooch) The lapel, shoulders, hem length, waist seams, width of sleeve, which are often adjusted to modernise a piece, all appear to be unchanged.

I’d be very happy if a piece in my wardrobe stood the test of time and had the regular wears, that this has.

If there was ever a good advertisement for adding classic quality pieces to your wardrobe, this is one.
