Accessorising

Andie MacDowell (arriving at Nice airport for the Cannes Film Festival) and showing us how chic all black can be – especially when you’re wearing it with great accessories.

*The thing about traveling with a dress like this, is that you could make it work for different events/occasions by swapping the accessories. i.e. hair down, add jewellery, a heel and a clutch OR a hat, a straw bag, and a slide or sneaker, etc…

Alterations

My client sent me this pic yesterday to show me how she’d changed a dress I’d shared on my Fab Finds, into this skirt.

This is what she said….

Alterations

And this, is the original dress…

Alterations

The thing is, clothes off the rack are not always going to work for us. Whether the fit isn’t quite right or you’d prefer it with a different sleeve, cropped, narrowed or lengthened – always be open to making alterations so that the piece becomes perfect for you.

I think it looks pretty great, don’t you?

Personal Style

Meaghan Smith Personal Stylist

If you’re always online looking at other people’s style, it’s not hard to begin to lose sight of your own.

You might even notice that stuff starts to creep into your wardrobe, that you have no idea how to wear, that you don’t particularly like – and you begin to feel like you have no idea what your style is anymore.

While it’s still early in the year, ask yourself – how do I want to look and feel in my clothes? Am I dressing in a way that represents the woman I am today? Am I being myself?

For me, I always want to feel feminine – even though I like pieces that can be fairly masculine. (e.g. Shirts, pantsuits, leather motorcycle jackets). I enjoy wearing something unexpected &/or slightly off, & I don’t like to be overly groomed or perfect. I.e. Sleeves haphazardly rolled up, a shirt that’s crumpled, hair that looks a bit messy. And occasionally, I might wear something inspired by…or feels like, the ‘70s. High-waisted jeans, flares, velvet blazers, pussy-bow blouses, clutch bags, knee-high boots, etc.

Thinking about your style like this should help you only put things in your wardrobe that feels authentic to you.

Personal Style – Lauren Hutton

Personal Style Lauren Hutton

This is Lauren Hutton 1993-ish.

If I was to describe her style here, I might use some of these words…

classic
relaxed
effortless
simple
sporty
oversized
tailored
casual
soft
unexpected
elegant

To break it down, she’s wearing a blazer, a trench coat, track pants, and sneakers. (Probably also a woven rattan back pack she always carries. Still.) It’s an unexpected combo of tailored pieces and sporty casual pieces.

One or two of the words I chose could have been influenced by the era -particularly oversized – but I think most of them represent Lauren’s style pretty well – then and now.

I thought this might help some of you who are figuring out your style. Do any of those words resonate with you and your style?

Scroll down and check out the photo below. If you didn’t know it was Lauren Hutton from the 90’s, could you imagine it being a photo/outfit from today?
