Something To Try

Cardigan under blazer

Layer a cardigan under a blazer (or just a jacket in general).

Of course it’s great for warmth, but from a styling perspective putting a cardigan in between your first and third layer can add texture, color, depth and maybe even shape to your outfit.

It could be a good one to try as we transition into spring because you have the option of removing a layer if you get warm. Obviously take off the blazer/jacket, otherwise the cardie, and perhaps put it around your shoulders.

TIP: Play around with how you button your cardigan. I like to do up a couple at the waist & generally always leave at least one open at the bottom.

It’s Not What You Wear, It’s How You Wear It.

27 Aug

This jumper’s been in my wardrobe for 37 years. My Nan knitted it for me when I was 19.

The last couple of winters I haven’t worn it – but because it’s one of my favourite things, I wanted to try and work out why I wasn’t reaching for it.

When I tried it with my white jeans I realised what it was straight away.

In the past I’ve always worn it with black skinny jeans, or black leggings or jodhpurs. And I don’t wear any of them anymore.

When I wear it with black bottoms – particularly skinny ones – I don’t notice how long the jumper is. But when I wear it with blue or white denim, it feels too long for me. (I also don’t like where it finishes on my leg)

So… I tried cropping it by tucking some of the jumper into the waistband of my jeans. i.e. it’s not tucked into my jeans creating bulk on my tummy. I’m much happier with it this way.

I believe you can also buy bands you can put around your middle to tuck the knit up and into. And you can also tuck a knit/top up into your bra. I’m not sure how comfortable that would be though.

I offer a couple of styling sessions where I can look over your clothes with a fresh eye and help you restyle some of the pieces in your wardrobe. One is a wardrobe styling session in your home and the other is via FaceTime. You can read about them here ????

WINTER TWEAK

21 Aug

Winter Styling Tweak

When it’s chilly like it is now, it’s the ideal time to play around with layers to see if you can bring something fresh to some of your old, everyday looks.

For warmth, to add depth, maybe extra texture and color to your outfit, try layering a turtleneck knit underneath…everything. Shirts, dresses, other knits, jumpsuits, hoodies, etc.

Winter Styling Tweak

It’s an easy tweak that can make a big difference and make the outfit look like you’ve really thought about how you’ve styled it.

TIP: Fine merino turtlenecks are ideal for layering because they sit close to the body so don’t add any bulk when you use one underneath other pieces. (And they’re warm).

STREET STYLE

1 Jul

Paris Street Style

This is one of my favourite street style looks from the couture shows in Paris last week.

It’s not necessarily something I’d wear, but I’m still very inspired by it.

What I noticed and liked about it is…

I like that she chose a white bag (Working with the white in her dress, obviously) – keeping the look light. She could have gone for black, but it would have made the outfit darker.

The gold on the bag works with the gold in the dress, as well as the gold in her glasses and her tiny hoop earrings.

I like that she only wore minimal subtle jewellery, given a lot is already going on in the outfit.

I loved the pop of red on her nails.

Rather than just any old notepad, she’s chosen one that works with her outfit.

What I think is really clever is how the “m” in the “miu miu” on her glasses mimics the shape of the print on her dress.
