Pamela Anderson at Paris Fashion Week

Pamela Anderson at Paris Fashion Week

I liked this look on Pamela Anderson at the Dior show, day 1 of Couture Paris fashion week. While the suit is quite masculine – a little reminiscent I thought, of something Katherine Hepburn might have worn in the 1940’s – she oozed femininity and elegance.

Pamela Anderson at Paris Fashion Week

This is what I noticed about Pam’s look..

The overall shape of the outfit. Wide (padded) shoulders, cinched (belted) waist, wide legged pants.

The outfit’s one color (tonal dressing).

There’s texture by way of the wool in the suit, the fringe on the jacket & the net on the headpiece.

Some shine is coming from the headband, belt. Bag & shoes.

Pointy shoes with wide legged pants.

The headpiece also has a 1940’s (ish) feel.

The pants have fluidity & move beautifully as she walks. They’re long to the ground.

The jacket is around hip length.

She’s carrying a small structured, ladylike bag that isn’t at all distracting from what she’s wearing.

Summer Work Style

Summer Work Style

Sometimes summer dressing, particularly for work, can feel a little flat, plain and uninspired.

Wearing fewer pieces on the body and mostly going without jackets, means you have less to rely on for visual interest.

Here are a few ideas if you’d like some of your warm weather office outfits, (or just in general), to look and feel a bit more appealing…

Texture Even if you’re only wearing two pieces – A top and pants – your outfit can still have depth by way of texture. (The top in this photo is an example)

Shape You can create drama, add feminity, modernity, sharpness, fluidity, etc… with pieces with different shapes and lines.

Color Even if you are just combining two pieces it can be interesting. There are more options than black with a color. This photo is an example.

ShoesAnd bags, belts, glasses, and jewellery….but mostly shoes will have a huge impact on your outfit. You could be wearing a simple navy or black dress and a fabulous shoe. Easy A simple navy or black dress and a simple black shoe. A bit dull.

FYI – Shoes and accessories can also add texture, shine, color, shape, and modernity to your outfits. For example, a brown plaited belt or white mesh shoes.

Unexpected I know it’s not for everyone (and it won’t work in all work environments) but it might be for you, try combining a couple of unexpected pieces together. I.e. a dressy-ish pleated skirt with casual-ish flat sandals, or a dressy t-shirt with smart trousers and a kitten heel. Something you might not necessarily consider putting together.

What Goes Around Comes Around

jeans trends

Funny isn’t it how we might have seen this photo 7 – 9 years ago, while skinny low-rise jeans were all the rage – and thought, while beautiful, how outdated the clothes Diana wore in it looked.

Now, it’s quite the opposite, almost everything Diana’s wearing, from the large gold earrings and the oversized white shirt to the high-rise relaxed, straight jeans, are all in fashion – while skinny is not. (I know some of you are still wearing them – & that’s ok) If we didn’t know better, this pic of Diana could almost be mistaken for being a recent one, not nearly 30 years old, like it is.

I wonder what we’ll (those who gave them up ????) think when skinnies come back in again…& they will.

What goes around comes around.

How To Layer Necklaces

26 Nov

Layering Necklaces

Rather than just wearing one necklace, try layering two or more together.

It might be several delicate chains or a mix of fine, with heavier chains, which will create more texture.

Wear them close or far apart.

Play around to see what feels right for you and your personal style.

This is Elsa Peretti in 1974. She’s wearing several ‘Diamonds By The Yard’ necklaces which she designed and you can still buy from Tiffany & Co.
