MEAGHAN SMITH PERSONAL STYLIST

Do you recognise this person?  In this picture she’s been transformed to play a character in a movie. She posted it on her Instagram page recently saying, it was when she was “Lana – who wore pink lipstick, a yellow crop top, rose tattoo, multiple piercings and a denim mini skirt”

It really caught my eye when it popped up on my feed because I knew it was her but, if I didn’t, I probably wouldn’t have recognised her. She looked quite a bit older (despite it being 11 years ago) and not as stylish as I think of her.  …and that’s exactly what the costume and makeup department in the movie she was working on, wanted to achieve. 

And this is her!  Lovely Rebecca Gibney.

I wanted to share it with you because it highlights what a difference clothes, makeup, jewelry, hair and a (bad) tan can make and it’s a very good reminder to all us, that if it’s been a while since you updated your look (ie clothes, hair and makeup but I’d also include jewelry and glasses too) to consider whether it could be time to make some changes.

Just like anything, it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it.

When you’re clear about your personal style and the image you want to portray, you’ll be able to wear a piece (a leather jacket, boyfriend jeans, ankle boots, etc) your own way, to work for you – according to how you want to look.

That’s it!  I need a colored leather jacket.

I bought this one and this one last year (investment pieces that I intend to have and wear for 20 years – at least) and thought perhaps this year I could add either a maroon/burgundy, red or navy.

When I came across this photo of Jane Fonda in Net-a-Porter’s magazine, I decided immediately to start the search.

I think she looks fabulous, don’t you!

In case you’ve been wondering, you’re never too old for leather.  (Like everything, it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it)

A versatile, hardworking wardrobe should have at least one casual jacket – ideally in a neutral color that works with everything.

That jacket should be a step up from a knit, (i.e., a cardie) not a coat, nor something you’d wear hiking, exercising, or feeding the chooks on the farm.

It should be a piece you can dress up or down and wear anywhere from a picnic to school pick-up, to going shopping, watching your kids play sport, to lunch, to work…to dinner. Each time, changing and adapting its look.

The khaki jacket, or parka (Army green jacket/Military jacket) fits the bill.
