Shopping Tip – Imagine The Possibilities

1 Mar

So many women I talk to say they can’t stand shopping for clothes and find it frustrating.

One of the reasons is that they’re not considering the potential of something they try on, and as a result may end up leaving empty-handed.

For example, if you check out the photo below – I would never have bought this top if I thought this was how I’d have to wear it and how it would look.

Worn this way feels dowdy and it’s unflattering. I knew though that it had potential. I took my time before I decided whether to buy it or not, and I thought about how I could style it.

I can imagine this is how so many people go shopping.

They’re in their jeans and sneakers, or shorts and Birkenstocks…or whatever.

They try on a top or a dress, but they don’t try pairing it with something they might actually wear with it.

They don’t visualise how it could look with the right shoes, underwear, belt, bag…

They don’t tuck, fold or roll…or consider it might need a slight alteration. (FYI – The sleeves of this top were altered so there was less fabric)

They give themselves 3 minutes in a changeroom. They put it on and if it doesn’t look any good without any thoughtful styling, they whip it straight off and leave the shop feeling deflated….again.

Sound familiar?

Timeless Style

A photo of Jackie Kennedy walking down a street wearing a black dress, black sunglasses and black sandals

If I didn’t know better this could be a photo from a current French Vogue.

Everything about the outfit, including the hair, shoes, glasses and bag – look modern. Nothing appears outdated.

But then I notice the old van.. and of course, it’s Jackie Kennedy.

“For me accessories create and define a woman’s personal style. The bag she carries, the watch on her wrist, her jewelry, her sunglasses, her shoes all define a look that is her signature.” – Ralph Lauren

How To Update An Old Jacket With New Buttons

23 Feb

This is a photo of a woman wearing a dark colored jacket with white buttons

If you’re not keen on the buttons on a top, dress, jacket or coat – replace them.

That’s what I did with this blazer I’m wearing below.

I bought it online, and when it arrived I didn’t like the buttons that were on it, so I bought some new ones from Lincraft, and I swapped them over. It completely changed the look.

I’ve also updated quite a few old pieces in my wardrobe over the years by putting on different buttons. In fact, on my “to do” list is to find some diamante buttons and put them on one of my crisp white shirts, and I also saw pearl buttons on something recently and thought – I could do that!

Just one simple, inexpensive way to refresh your wardrobe.
