Street Style At New York Fashion Week

17 Sep

It’s New York Fashion Week and if you’ve been following my Facebook page for a while you’ll know I love the Fashion Weeks for watching what the showgoers wear to the shows.  I find that, equally if not more, as inspiring as watching what the designers are parading on the catwalks.

One of the women whose style I admire, Giorgia Tordini, has popped up a lot on sites and Instagram feeds wearing this head to toe navy outfit with black shoes (yes you can wear blue and black together) and lots of gold jewelry.

Wearing head to toe one color can look really chic or really bland depending on how you do it.

There are some tips for how to do it here.

A Summer Style Goal

15 Sep

One of my summer style goals is to get my fingernails into great shape so I can paint them red.

I love the impact a painted nail can have on an outfit, particularly when highlighted against basic pieces like a white shirt, a navy and white striped tee or a black knit.

And while I never paint my finger nails I almost always paint my toes.   My current favourite’s are Revlon Chilli and Chanel Rouge Noir.

Keep in mind painting your nails,  just like wearing  a brightly colored lip, is another way to decorate your clothes.

Bold Statement Earrings

9 Sep

Don’t save your big bold earrings for evenings or occasions.

Wear them during the day with a knit, a denim jacket, a striped t-shirt, a white shirt or a casual canvas jacket.

They’ll instantly make something basic, look interesting.

Try Something Different

25 Aug

Do something differently

I recently had a client tell me that in the time we had gone through her wardrobe and then met to go shopping together (about 2 weeks) she’d had several people comment on how much weight she’d lost.

She hadn’t lost any.

We’d just made a few simple little adjustments to how she wore her clothes.

Hem (Of tops as well as skirts and dresses) and sleeve lengths were shortened or lengthened, belts were added, flattering shoes were worn (Frumpy pairs were discarded) and things were tucked in.

Think about what you can do differently. Play around and experiment with various pieces and consider whether you could be wearing them in more flattering (often slimming) way.
