WINTER TWEAK

21 Aug

Winter Styling Tweak

When it’s chilly like it is now, it’s the ideal time to play around with layers to see if you can bring something fresh to some of your old, everyday looks.

For warmth, to add depth, maybe extra texture and color to your outfit, try layering a turtleneck knit underneath…everything. Shirts, dresses, other knits, jumpsuits, hoodies, etc.

Winter Styling Tweak

It’s an easy tweak that can make a big difference and make the outfit look like you’ve really thought about how you’ve styled it.

TIP: Fine merino turtlenecks are ideal for layering because they sit close to the body so don’t add any bulk when you use one underneath other pieces. (And they’re warm).

How To Look Chic Wearing Black and White

6 Dec

“Tell me about this floral (pink, yellow, green, orange, red, blue) top”, I ask my client during her Wardrobe Overhaul, “Do you love it?”

“No”.  She responds. “I bought it because I thought I should add more color to my wardrobe.” “I hate it!”

There’s a misconception, I’ve discovered since doing this job, that to look interesting, you need to wear lots of color and pattern – but it’s simply not true.

In fact, stylish and sophisticated looks can be achieved by simply wearing black and white.

My tips to make sure your black and white outfit looks chic, rather than bland, are to:

  • Keep the black, very black, and the white, very white
  • Make sure the fit is (really) good. (Because black and white is so clean, an ill-fitting silhouette will be highlighted)
  • Keep the cuts and styles modern (Rather than outdated)
  • Put plenty of thought into how you decorate your black and white pieces (Don’t let down an otherwise great outfit with a daggy, sensible shoe or scruffy handbag)

You Don’t Have To Wear Color If You Don’t Want To

17 Oct

Don’t let anyone tell you you “should” or “need” to wear more color. It’s perfectly fine (and in fact chic) to only wear grey, black, white, camel, beige, cream or navy.

Always wear what makes you feel authentic and confident.

Don’t ever feel pressured to wear anything that isn’t you…and your style.

Just make sure you keep it interesting and stylish with textures, shapes, fit and decoration.

Keep It Simple

13 Jul

Have you ever noticed how some of the women many consider to be the most stylish ever – mostly wore the simplest of outfits?

Rarely a loud print … and never too much frou-frou!

Often in black, white or navy (generally a sophisticated block color of some sort) and always with interesting statement pieces. (Bags, glasses, scarves, hats, coats, shoes and jewellery)

Their style has endured for a reason.
