It’s Not Just About Fashion

9 Dec

Last week, out of the blue, I received this beautiful email (that made me cry).  This is the reason I do what I do.  It’s not just about fashion and shopping.

Hi Meaghan,

I just wanted to send you a very long overdue email.

I had a personal shopping experience with you about 2 years ago.

You opened up my eyes and you were actually the catalyst for a lot of change in my life. After the shopping experience, I realised that I could make small changes to make me look and feel so much better. You gave me the confidence to value myself and take pride in my appearance.

After the shopping trip, I decided to make some changes. I actually lost 45kg and have managed to keep that weight off for 1 year now. I have attached a before and after pic.

I now enjoy deciding what to wear each day and experimenting with different styles. I’m also wearing make up to work for the first time ever!  I feel confident in what I wear, and I have become more social as a result of the confidence.

My family are all amazed at the changes I have gone through these past 2 years (I also ended up buying a dream lifestyle property partly due to me taking more care of myself) and my family believe that it is ever since our personal shopping trip that I have made the changes.

So, I just wanted to say thank you. For me – it has literally been a life changing experience.

What prompted me to write this email today is that I’m thinking of asking my husband to buy me another session with you for Christmas. Lol.

So anyway, a big thank you to you, and hopefully I get my Christmas wish and get to have another session with you soon.

Best wishes

Sarah

Isn’t she amazing!

I might have helped kick start Sarah’s incredible transformation, but she’s given me (and I’m sure many others) so much inspiration and such a rewarding gift by sharing her photos and with her lovely words.

How To Put Together A Sexy Outfit

21 Nov

In the past couple of weeks two of my regular clients have asked me to help them find something “sexy” to wear.

One contacted me saying “Help! I’ve got a wedding to go to and I need to look hot. My ex-husband is going to be there with his new girlfriend” and the other was ready to start embracing her curves, by accentuating her lovely figure and wear something less conservative than she was used to.

The first thing I asked both of them was – When it comes to clothes, what makes you feel sexy?

(One, after some prompting from me knew what it was, and the other had no idea, which meant we had to do lots of sampling of different things til she figured it out).

Everyone has their own idea of what sexy is and what makes you feel that way when you’re wearing it. For some, it’s a pretty soft flowy dress with just a subtle hint of skin, for others it might be a figure hugging and/or revealing (perhaps Kardashianesque) outfit and for others like me, it’s my favourite perfume, pretty lingerie, a great pair of jeans and heels.

(And for some, it’s not important at all…)

Whether it’s “funky”, “edgy”, “trendy”, “cool” or “sexy”, that you’re wanting to achieve, you need to figure out what that word means to you first. Keeping in mind that it’s not just about how you look, but more importantly how you feel. Because when you feel it, you’ll also exude it..

Tuck In

25 Oct

Have you tried tucking in?

Some people are a little nervous to try it because they think that they’re too old for it, or it won’t suit them, etc, – and that’s fair enough – I understand doing something that’s not what you’re used to can cause uncertainty.   But if you’ve never done it before, challenge yourself to experiment with the look – and decide whether it’s for you or not.  (It’s just like when I get someone to try a style of jeans that are different to what they’ve been wearing.  It can take a little while to get used to how they look on the body)

There’s a few different ways to tuck in, so play around til you find a way that feels comfortable for you.  (For some a full tuck feels too exposed initially, so perhaps try just doing a half tuck and see how that goes)

Keep in mind when you do tuck in, that the bottoms (and in fact even the underwear) you’re wearing are important and will have quite an effect on the look.  (ie where they finish on your tummy, whether they have a zip or not, the fabric, etc) It might work with some of your bottoms and it might not work with others.  *Both pants and skirts.

Like everything, tucking won’t be right for everyone.  It may not feel right, of course you might not even like the look or it may not be a flattering style for you – but you’ll never know if you don’t give it a try. Sometimes what shouldn’t work, does.

*Note – If you prefer to wear your tops un-tucked then make sure the length and the shape of the hem are the most flattering styles for you.

**FYI  You’re not too old for tucking – whatever your age.

Have You Had A Fashion Light Bulb Moment?

24 Oct

In order for you to dress and shop without frustration and so that you feel confident and comfortable in your clothes, you need to have a very clear idea what your style is. Keep asking yourself every time you put something on, how you feel. (It’s not just about how you look. You might put something on that a friend or shop assistant says looks great, but unless you feel it, it’s not going to work for you)

I was thrilled to get this email from a lovely girl I recently worked with. It’s always very rewarding when I know that someone has got it (and also received some nice compliments).

“Hi Meaghan

I just wanted you to know that I had a fashion light bulb moment when we went out (shopping) and I’m so pleased with my purchases. I even took all the tags off the items I bought. Amazing.

I went out to the work function in the outfit we bought at Country Road and felt fabulous. I went around to my daughters before I left, to get her opinion and her husband was just staring at me. He said he didn’t think he had seen me in a skirt and why on earth not. At the function the girls commented positively on my outfit. In a way it didn’t matter what they thought because I was dressing in a manner that was MY style and I felt really comfortable. And it wasn’t hard. Thank you so much. As I said before I feel like I can breath and a weight has been lifted off me.

In the short time I have spent with you you have made a difference in my life and I am truly grateful.

Regards

I.M.”
