Don’t Buy It Before You Do This

21 Jun

Before you head to the counter to pay for that special something you’ve found in the sales, give it a really thorough once over to make sure there are no faults.

Chances are that piece has been on the shop floor (or in a back storeroom) for several months and tried on hundreds of times.

Look carefully for missing buttons, loose threads, snags, fallen hems, pulls, broken zips, perspiration stains and torn seams.

You don’t want to get all the way home to make a nasty discovery…..and then, even more annoying, realise the item isn’t refundable.

Shop carefully!

How To Wear White Sneakers In Winter

16 May

When I think back to the days I used to walk home from work in my suit and sneakers, I never looked anywhere near as chic as Victoria Beckham does in her trousers and sneakers. (below)

I used to put my trainers on in the office (they were the same ones I wore to pump and spinning classes at the gym) and walk as fast as I could out of the CBD in the hope I wouldn’t bump into anyone I knew.

Back then trainers were really just for that – training – and wearing them for anything but exercise was seen as being a bit daggy.  (Think Jerry Seinfeld in his jeans and runners) But now, wearing a pair of smart sneakers is fashionable.

If you’re thinking about adding a new comfy casual, runaround shoe for winter, consider a pair of white (Yes white for winter) sneakers.

They’ll add instant freshness to your look and work with all those stylish colors you no doubt have in your wardrobe.  (ie navy, grey, khaki, black, white and camel)

TIP: For winter, consider leather rather than canvas which are a challenge to keep clean in winter.

Day To Night Dressing

7 Apr

A suit worn casually with a pair of sneakers and a tee during the day and then….dressed up in the evening with heels and fancy earrings.

This is what I’ve mentioned many times before about using your clothes in lots of different ways.

Making sure when you buy something that you’re not restricted by only being able to wear it one way.

If you missed it read –  “The Final Question I Ask Myself Before I Make A Purchase” here.

Weekend Wardrobe Challenge

1 Apr

Toss..

Old-fashioned suits, jackets, blazers and coats – that can’t be remodeled.

If they can be reinvented – Do it! – don’t leave them hanging in the wardrobe untouched for another decade.

Be ruthless. Don’t hang on to anything that doesn’t make you feel great.

It was 1988 when Working Girl was released, so it’s fairly obvious that the fashion from then is now outdated (or in some cases, vintage)

Knowing whether something from the last decade has become out of style is not as easy – especially for people who don’t regularly follow fashion.

If you find going through your wardrobe and deciding what stays and what goes, daunting and would like some help deciding which of your suits, jackets and coats (among other things) are still current or not, which ones can be remodeled and which ones to let go of,  you can contact me here.

If you’re on a roll and up for more wardrobe challenges you can find them here.
