Shopping In His Wardrobe

27 Mar

It’s ok to “shop” in your husband or boyfriends wardrobe, as long as you don’t try to wear the item in the same way he does.

In this photo Garance Dore wears her (former) partners shorts.

The reason they look so good (apart from her lovely legs) is because she’s added her own feminine touch to them – heels, a silk shirt, a beautifully tailored jacket and red nails.

Is there anything in his wardrobe you might be able to wear by styling it your own way?

Be creative.

(As Sharon Stone did when she wore her husbands white shirt to the Academy Awards with a Vera Wang skirt)

If The Shoe Flatters

21 Mar

When you’re shopping for a new pair of shoes, apart from wanting something that fits and something that’s comfortable, do you also consider whether the shoe is flattering on your leg?

The Personal Style Of…Tonne Goodman

22 Jan

While some people have a wardrobe full of various styles and like to dress according to what they’re doing, their mood, who they’re spending time with or what’s currently in fashion, others like to have a uniform and wear the same thing, or a version of it, every day.

Vogue fashion editor, Tonne Goodman is one such person.

Her signature look is – straight leg white jeans (occasionally black) with a turtleneck black sweater (occasionally a crisp shirt) and flats.  Sometimes she wears a scarf and she mostly always wears a large men’s style watch (otherwise, unadorned).  Her hair is worn long and she never wears makeup.

The Master Of Dressing For Summer, Classic Style

13 Jan

Summer style for classic dressers can be challenging.  Particularly holiday dressing and even more so, beach holiday dressing.

Some classic dressers, myself included, are not typically attracted to floaty, flowy, soft, patterned fabrics and can therefore struggle when it’s time to pack our cases for a destination where it’s going to be hot.

Our wardrobes might be mostly made up of tailored, safe, traditional, structured pieces.

But obviously we can’t go on a sea or pool side holiday (or in summer in general) in our blazers, crisp shirts and trench coats. So our challenge is to find casual clothes that work for our style, in the heat.

The person who achieved this more than anyone, was Jackie Kennedy.

It was all about keeping what she wore very simple and then decorating with fabulous accessories.

For those fellow classic dressers out there, here are some photos to give you some inspiration.

*Remember these photos are just to give you ideas.  It’s up to you to adapt the look for your age, size, height, budget, lifestyle, etc, etc.
