The Denim Jacket Is What Your Wardrobe Needs For Spring

15 Aug

It’s time to start thinking about what your wardrobe needs for spring.

Go through it and consider what should be replaced (ie what’s looking tired) and what gaps need filling. (Preventing you from creating more outfits).

Do you need fresh new t-shirts, have you got great shoes to wear when it warms up and do you have at least one casual jacket? (Ie not a coat and not a cardigan)

Maybe, if it works for your style and lifestyle – a denim jacket?

(If you already have one, does it still cut it? Does it still look current or has it become outdated?)

If you need help working out what gaps need filling and/or filling them you can book in for a styling session here

The Velvet Blazer

3 Aug

The newest addition to my wardrobe is this navy velvet blazer.

You can spend a squillion dollars on a fancy designer blazer but if it doesn’t fit properly (ie the shoulders, the armholes, the length, the sleeve width, the sleeve length, the back seam and the lapels) it’ll never look great.  (*If you’d like to learn how to know when a blazer fits you perfectly book in for a styling session with me here)

If it’s not quite right, leave it behind in the store or commit to having it altered.

TIP – The shoulders should always fit perfectly because it’s too hard to have them fixed..

This one was on sale for $39 and it fits just right. (I also bought it in black)

You’re Never Too Old To Wear…

27 Jun

..leather.

Just like anything, it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it.

When you’re clear about your personal style and the image you want to portray, you’ll be able to wear a piece (a leather jacket, boyfriend jeans, ankle boots, etc) your own way, to work for you – according to how you want to look.

One Way You Can Update Your Old Jackets And Coats

6 Mar

Around this time each year I pull out all my old coats and jackets and assess what I have and consider what I might need when the cold weather arrives.

This involves deciding whether I need/want to add something new to my collection, what maintenance needs to be done and thinking about what I could do with them to update them and give them a new look.

This year, unless something amazing catches my eye, I’ve decided I don’t need a new coat – I’m going to focus my attention on giving some of my old one’s a makeover.

For some it might be big (like cutting it from knee length to hip length) and for others it might be a little change (like adding a sparkly vintage brooch).

If you’re creative, there are many ways you can give new life to an old piece. (See how I did it here)

In the photos below and above, I’ve shown you how, by swapping over the belt your jacket came with with something different, it can give it a whole new fresh look.

(If belts are not your thing, try something else)
