Try Something Different

25 Aug

Do something differently

I recently had a client tell me that in the time we had gone through her wardrobe and then met to go shopping together (about 2 weeks) she’d had several people comment on how much weight she’d lost.

She hadn’t lost any.

We’d just made a few simple little adjustments to how she wore her clothes.

Hem (Of tops as well as skirts and dresses) and sleeve lengths were shortened or lengthened, belts were added, flattering shoes were worn (Frumpy pairs were discarded) and things were tucked in.

Think about what you can do differently. Play around and experiment with various pieces and consider whether you could be wearing them in more flattering (often slimming) way.

How To Tie Your Trench

6 Aug

Instead of always buckling up your trench coat, try wrapping it around you and tying it in a knot.

Tying it can take it from business-y and formal to cool and casual.

If you went to Girl Guides you might be able to come up with some clever ways to knot it.  But it’s fine, if you’re like me and didn’t, to just knot it any old way.

You can see in some of the photos the knot is placed right on the stomach and in others it’s to the side. I tend to wear mine to the side because I like it to look flat across my tummy.  You’ll be able to work out for yourself (in your full length mirror) where it looks best on you.

While tying a trench is one way to wear it, it is by no means the only way.   (Just because this way of wearing a trench might not work for your body shape, it doesn’t mean you should give up on wearing one. Also keep in mind that trench coats come in many different styles and fabrics and a classic, heavy version might not be your best option)

Proportions – Leg Length

13 Jul

If you’re going to wear something long on top and short (cropped) on the bottom, consider highlighting your waist to visually lengthen your legs.

Outdated, Old-Fashioned Style Rule

6 Jul

Outdated “style rule”…

“Redheads shouldn’t wear red.”

Don’t let this, or other old-fashioned “rules”, restrict your personal style.
